Job Profile: The Role of a Trainee IPDRG Medical Coder

As a Trainee Medical Coder in the IPDRG department, you will play an essential administrative role that directly impacts the financial health of U.S. hospitals.1 Your primary responsibility will be to act as the linguistic bridge between complex clinical documentation and standardized codes.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Review and Analysis: Scrutinizing patient medical records, physician’s notes, operative reports, lab results, and discharge summaries to understand the patient’s complete hospital stay.
  • Code Assignment: Translating diagnoses, procedures, and medical services into universal alphanumeric codes, primarily using the ICD-10-CM (for diagnoses) and ICD-10-PCS (for procedures) classification systems, as required by the IPDRG methodology.2
  • Compliance and Accuracy: Ensuring all assigned codes adhere strictly to official coding guidelines, regulatory standards, and payer policies to guarantee accurate billing and reimbursement.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Degrees Accepted: B. Pharma, M. Pharma, Pharm D, BAMS, BHMS, BDS, BPT, BNYS, B.Sc (MLT, OTT, Physician Assistant, Cardiac Care, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Imaging) & other Paramedical streams only.
  • Degrees NOT Accepted: Life Science & Non-Life Science graduates are not eligible for this specific drive.
  • Experience: Freshers are welcome! No prior coding experience is required, as complete training is provided.
