NCERT has dropped several topics from textbooks of Classes 6 to 12 in an effort to rationalise the syllabus for the academic session 2022-23 to ease the load on students because of the Covid-19 disruption in the last two years.
References to the 2022 Gujarat Riots, the Cold War, and Mughal courts have been dropped from the Class 12 textbook. From the Class 11 textbook, industrial revolution has been scrapped and a few Dalit writers have been removed from a Class 7 textbook.
Like in the last couple of years, this year as well, 30% of the syllabi was removed as part of the syllabus rationalisation. The syllabus rationalisation process was started off in December 2021 and the process has now been completed with a team of subject experts.
Many of these changes has been announced earlier in April when CBSE rationalised its syllabi for this year in April.
REASONS BEHIND DROPPING CONTENT
NCERT has also dropped content in case of “overlapping” or similar content wherein the same or similar content has been included in lower or higher classes. Content has also been removed depending on the “difficulty level” of the content or if the content was “irrelevant” in the present context.
