Which sample paper is best for class10 exams?
This is a question I’m finally qualified to answer as I actually went through the extensive research process for my sister to help her with her 10th class board prep in the last few months. It was a fun exercise since I have an analytical background and she was freaking out due to so many choices so I will try to provide a very unbiased perspective of which publisher’s sample paper is today best in the market.

I purchased sample papers from top 4 publishers in Class 10. Oswaal, Educart, Xamidea and Arihant and compared 5 different factors in each book.

My focus of analysis was five things:

a. Latest CBSE Paper Pattern Followed: CBSE has announced their newest sample paper on 19th Sep 2019 with major changes in the design of paper (from type of questions to choices inside sections and even changes in blueprint in case of Hindi). I was surprised to notice that companies like Arihant and Oswaal failed to incorporate exact 100% changes as expected in all subjects. Evergreen missed out on accuracy of sub-parts in some questions of maths which is very important.

Almost everyone was a winner here by meticulously covering every change in all the subjects right to the tee although Educart, Oswaal and Xamidea were more accurate (more than 96% accurate in implementing latest cbse changes in all subjects).

b. Quality Of Solutions: Providing good solid papers to practice is important but us students look for well explained and detailed solutions to questions, even questions like MCQs. Even if the answer is option d, explanation of why a,b,c are incorrect helps students give context. Such detail I feel makes a good sample paper book. Xamidea and Educart seemed to hit bullseye in those areas. Other 3 were very sporadic in providing detailed explanations.

Another key part was providing smart methods like bulleted points, comparison tables to structure answers better (like in science) and breakdown of marks according to marking scheme for the solutions. This was covered best by Arihant and Educart of the four.

c. Topper papers: I feel topper solutions help a lot in connecting with how an ideal answer is written. It helps learn how a definition question fetches marks or how a lengthy maths equation can be solved to get marks even if you get the answer wrong due to miscalculation or how you write a letter to get marks for different parts of the structure. This is very important to emulate and I’m surprised Airhant or Xamidea don’t provide that. In this respect Oswaal and Educart were the winners.

d. Value For Money: Lastly, total number of sample papers, quality of printing vs cost they are charging matters to justify the purchase of the book. Because in the end a student can only buy 1 book to avoid practice fatigue and overwhelming nature of sample paper book.

Xamidea provides 20 papers for Rs179.

Oswaal provides 10 papers for Rs 199.

Educart provides 15 papers for Rs 179

Arihant provides 15 papers for around Rs 200.

e. Readibility: In terms of readibility and comfort level, Educart was the best with colored pages and high quality of paper from out of the four. It felt I was holding an international publisher book in my hand with them. Oswaal was the worst with ridiculously high price considering their paper/print/readibility quality was the poorest of all books.

Slight irrelevant stuff like chapter-wise notes and mid-terms in my opinion although some students may find it useful. Arihant has this concept of 3 levels of difficulty to prep a student for the highest difficulty level. I felt it is redundant structure of the book now when Maths is divided into Maths easy (basic) and Maths difficult (standard). They also provide first five papers along with solutions just below the question. Students want to practice papers without looking at the solutions so they kind of miss the point.

In terms of value for money, Xamidea provided most papers for less price.
